The Living Room Mistakes I See Over and Over (And How to Fix Them)

Hello!

Today’s episode was inspired by a recent client who asked for help falling back in love with her living room. She told me, “It just never feels right.”

The interesting part? She truly loved the rest of her home and her backyard. Those spaces felt good to her. So it was important that we create that same grounded, inviting feeling in the living room.

When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by incredible artwork. She lives in a vibrant Southwest community with a strong art scene, and she had invested in these bold, dramatic, large-scale canvases. Her home is very modern with tall ceilings, so visually it all made sense at first glance.

But then I noticed something subtle.

The artwork was hung very high.

Her intention had been to fill the vertical space because of the tall ceilings. But instead of making the room feel expansive, it was actually making it feel disconnected. The art was floating above the space rather than participating in it.

When artwork is hung too high, especially in a cozy gathering space like a living room, it lifts the eye upward and pulls the energy away from where life is actually happening. The room loses its sense of grounding. Instead of feeling intimate and connected, it just feels....off.

The solution? Lower the art so it interacts with the furniture and the people in the room. Art should be part of the conversation, not hovering above it.

Sometimes the smallest shifts are what bring a space, and the people in it, back down to earth. The Aligned at Home Collective is a monthly guided teaching and home alignment practice inspired by my book Aligned at Home, offering live workshops + a growing archive of videos, Q&A, and practical tools designed for steady, real-life integration. Our first meeting is tonight at 7pm ET. I hope to see you there!

Warmly, Lisa Morton

Happy, Sunny Day! Wow… life has felt really exciting lately. I just got back from a trip to Canada for a mini book tour, and I have to say...I met some of the most amazing women. The kind you just know you’ll never forget. I'm so grateful for the wonderful woman who helped me organize the festivities - Magda, thank you! On my way home, I found myself reflecting (as I tend to do on long trips)… and while I’ve loved some of the deeper, more introspective episodes lately, I could also feel the...

Happy, Sunny Day! I hope your week is going well so far! I'm excited to share that I'll be in the Toronto area for book events Thursday through Sunday. If you're in the area please reach out. Always love to meet my listeners in person! After more than a decade of offering energy work in homes, yoga studios, offices, and clinics around the world, this past week brought a first for me… I worked on a barn in Maine. It was a space with many layers and quite a bit ready to shift, and I’m happy to...

Greetings! I’ve seen some pretty interesting Feng Shui “cures” over the years. Everything from a bowl of rice sitting on the back of a toilet… to mirrors placed in the most unexpected places… to objects tucked into corners that no one can quite explain. And usually when I ask about them, the answer is something like, “I saw it online…” or “I read somewhere that this was good Feng Shui.” Now, there’s often a reason behind these suggestions and intention does really matter. But, I believe we...
