What if you didn't need all this?

Hello!

I recently had Stephanie Denson on the podcast, and I found myself thinking about our conversation for days afterward. She's the founder of Spirit and Space, a professional organizing company, and what struck me most wasn't her tips on decluttering, it was her approach to the emotional side of letting go.

Stephanie shared a story about a client named Sue who was ready to move to a senior living community. She had found the perfect apartment. But when it came time to downsize, she felt paralyzed. Not because she had too much stuff, but because letting go felt like admitting something was changing.

So Sue worked with Stephanie over three months. They started small, made decisions together, and found good homes for things that still had life in them. And somewhere in that process, Sue stopped feeling stuck. She moved into her new space, and on day one, she wasn't surrounded by boxes or decisions still to be made. She was actually home!

I think downsizing gets a bad rap and it's as if you're going to be forced to get rid of things you love. But, what if it's actually about clarity?

Listen to the full episode to hear Stephanie's wisdom on navigating home organizing and downsizing, plus some surprising truths about collectibles and the emotional side of "what if syndrome."

Thank you for your support!

Warmly, Lisa Morton

P.S. If you're thinking about downsizing or know someone who is, Stephanie has some helpful digital guides on her website. Check them out and share this episode with a friend.

When Clutter Weighs More Than the Stuff: Downsizing with Professional Organizer Stephanie Denson

Season 3 Episode 41

I don't have a ton of guests on the podcast, but when I do, I make sure they're people who are doing work that matters. Stephanie Denson, founder of Spirit and Space, is one of those people.

In this episode, we talk about the emotional side of downsizing, why "what if syndrome" keeps us stuck, and how small decisions about your belongings can actually be transformative. Stephanie shares stories of real clients like Sue, who was ready to move to senior living but felt paralyzed by her possessions and what changed when she finally let herself let go.

"Home is a shelter from storms - all sorts of storms."

Happy, Sunny Day! Wow… life has felt really exciting lately. I just got back from a trip to Canada for a mini book tour, and I have to say...I met some of the most amazing women. The kind you just know you’ll never forget. I'm so grateful for the wonderful woman who helped me organize the festivities - Magda, thank you! On my way home, I found myself reflecting (as I tend to do on long trips)… and while I’ve loved some of the deeper, more introspective episodes lately, I could also feel the...

Happy, Sunny Day! I hope your week is going well so far! I'm excited to share that I'll be in the Toronto area for book events Thursday through Sunday. If you're in the area please reach out. Always love to meet my listeners in person! After more than a decade of offering energy work in homes, yoga studios, offices, and clinics around the world, this past week brought a first for me… I worked on a barn in Maine. It was a space with many layers and quite a bit ready to shift, and I’m happy to...

Greetings! I’ve seen some pretty interesting Feng Shui “cures” over the years. Everything from a bowl of rice sitting on the back of a toilet… to mirrors placed in the most unexpected places… to objects tucked into corners that no one can quite explain. And usually when I ask about them, the answer is something like, “I saw it online…” or “I read somewhere that this was good Feng Shui.” Now, there’s often a reason behind these suggestions and intention does really matter. But, I believe we...
