Feng Shui Rules I Will and Won't Break

Greetings!

I’ve seen some pretty interesting Feng Shui “cures” over the years. Everything from a bowl of rice sitting on the back of a toilet… to mirrors placed in the most unexpected places… to objects tucked into corners that no one can quite explain. And usually when I ask about them, the answer is something like, “I saw it online…” or “I read somewhere that this was good Feng Shui.”

Now, there’s often a reason behind these suggestions and intention does really matter.

But, I believe we are meant to live in our homes… not live around a collection of confusing or bizarre “fixes.” Good Feng Shui should feel natural. It should feel like you and flow easily with life and not make it more complicated. And it’s also important to remember…many of these Feng Shui principles were developed thousands of years ago. Homes looked very different then. So there are times when we need to bend a rule… or even break it entirely… to make it work for our homes and our lives.

I remember working with a client who had been told that she should paint her bathroom kelly green to “fix” the energy. It didn't compliment the style of her home and she didn't even like it. Plus that shade of green was a bit too vibrant! :) We selected a new beautiful sage green that would soften the space and she also LOVED, and we made a few other simple changes that actually made the space feel calm and clean and a room she wanted to be in.

And that’s really the goal. Not to follow rules blindly, but to create a home that feels supportive, clear, and aligned with how you and your family actually want to live.

I'd love to know some bizarre or really out-there "fixes" or "cures" that you've encountered. Respond to this email and let me know or, better yet, pop over to my podcast Instagram profile and share. You can find me @fengshuilivingpodcast.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Warmly, Lisa Morton

Hello! This week I had a consultation with Becky from Iowa. We've worked together a few times before and I always enjoy connecting with her. You know what? It really got me thinking a lot about my upbringing, growing up in Iowa, and how my deep connection to nature really helped me find this special work. Today's episode is a little different... and honestly, it's one I've been wanting to record for a while. I'm pulling back the curtain and sharing some of the nudges that helped me find my...

Hello! I recently had Stephanie Denson on the podcast, and I found myself thinking about our conversation for days afterward. She's the founder of Spirit and Space, a professional organizing company, and what struck me most wasn't her tips on decluttering, it was her approach to the emotional side of letting go. Stephanie shared a story about a client named Sue who was ready to move to a senior living community. She had found the perfect apartment. But when it came time to downsize, she felt...

Happy, Sunny Day! Wow… life has felt really exciting lately. I just got back from a trip to Canada for a mini book tour, and I have to say...I met some of the most amazing women. The kind you just know you’ll never forget. I'm so grateful for the wonderful woman who helped me organize the festivities - Magda, thank you! On my way home, I found myself reflecting (as I tend to do on long trips)… and while I’ve loved some of the deeper, more introspective episodes lately, I could also feel the...
